Doctors Ophthalmologist Ophthalmologist · Now working in Taranaki Moved to New Zealand from Jerusalem, Israel, in 2023 with my spouse & our two children, aged 5 & 10. Oren, 46 years old, Ophthalmologist. The 1st & most important step for us was deciding to relocate—and choosing where to relocate to. Once that decision was made, we knew we had to fully commit to the process. At the beginning, it felt like a long & intimidating journey. However, with the right people guiding us, it became a much more manageable, step-by-step experience. We were fortunate to work with ACCENT Health Recruitment, along with Lane Neave, and their support was invaluable. We made every effort to complete all the requirements they set at each stage, and they essentially guided the whole process safely from start to finish. In the end, we managed to complete everything—from the initial decision to arriving in New Plymouth—in roughly eight months. The most challenging part was making the decision and committing to such a significant life change. The easiest part came later, once we were in the process with the right support and clear direction. My advice to others considering the move is simple: take the time to make a firm decision, and once you do, commit fully. With experienced professionals guiding you, the process becomes far less overwhelming & much more achievable. Relocation wouldn’t have been possible without finding the right workplace. Although New Plymouth is a relatively small & somewhat “rural” eye centre, the family-like atmosphere and comprehensive approach to patient care made it the ideal place for me. Looking back, this demanding journey—the time, effort, and resources invested—was more than worthwhile. My family has integrated beautifully into the warm Kiwi community. My children are thriving and enjoying every day. The Taranaki region, with its mountains, coastline, rivers, and incredible natural scenery, is outstanding—matched only by the kindness of the people. We feel very fortunate. Workplace: In my current role, one of the key differences compared to my previous position in Jerusalem is the scale and environment. Working in a smaller centre allows for a closer, more personal connection with both colleagues and patients. There is a strong sense of teamwork and a genuine family-like atmosphere. Overall, this experience has proven to be the right choice for us, and we’re looking forward to continuing to grow—both professionally and as a family—here in New Zealand.
